Tripura NEET UG 2026 Counselling —
Round 1 Opens 18 August
Tripura's Directorate of Medical Education notified two tracks together on 14 August: state domicile counselling for MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BUMS and BASLP, and 105 All India seats at Tripura's two medical colleges for candidates outside Tripura. Both open on the same portal, the same day.

The short answer. Tripura's Round 1 counselling portal, trmcc.admissions.nic.in, opens 18 August 2026. It covers two separate tracks notified in the same order: Tripura State Quota/Domicile seats for MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BUMS and BASLP; and, for the first time explicitly dated, 105 All India seats at Tripura's two medical colleges — 30 at Tripura Medical College (TMC) and 75 at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College (TSMC) — open to candidates who are not Tripura domicile. Registration fee runs ₹1,800–2,500 depending on category, plus a mandatory security deposit of ₹5,000–10,000 for government college seats or a flat ₹1,00,000 for non-government seats. Detailed round-by-round dates and the seat matrix publish separately as the schedule firms up.
State Domicile —
and 105 Seats Open to Everyone Else
| Track | Who it's for | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| State Quota / Domicile | Tripura permanent residents meeting one of five eligibility clauses (Annexure C) | All remaining seats across MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BUMS and BASLP courses at Tripura institutions |
| All India — TMC | Any NEET UG 2026 qualified candidate who is not Tripura domicile | 30 MBBS seats at Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital |
| All India — TSMC | Any NEET UG 2026 qualified candidate who is not Tripura domicile | 75 MBBS seats at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College |
This is the detail worth registering carefully: a candidate from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur or anywhere else in the Northeast without a specific Tripura connection cannot compete for the State Quota track, but can register for the 105 All India seats at TMC and TSMC through the very same portal, on the very same 18 August opening date. These 105 seats are separate from, and additional to, the 15% All India Quota that MCC allots nationally at every government medical college in India, Tripura's included.
Five Clauses,
One Ten-Year Test at the Centre
| Clause | Who qualifies |
|---|---|
| Clause 1 | Indian citizen and permanent resident of Tripura, with the candidate or parents continuously residing in Tripura for at least 10 years immediately before applying for NEET UG. Must not have applied for domicile of any other state. |
| Clause 2 | Children of All India Services officers borne on the Tripura cadre, and children of state government employees posted outside Tripura — eligible regardless of prior stay in Tripura. |
| Clause 3 | Candidate not a permanent resident, but a parent is on deputation to the Tripura government or is a central government officer/employee working in Tripura, having served there continuously for 3+ years, with the candidate having passed the qualifying exam from a Tripura school/institute. |
| Clause 4 | Wards of ex-servicemen, where the candidate or parents have stayed in Tripura continuously for at least 5 years before applying, and the candidate passed Class 12 from a Tripura institution. |
| Clause 5 | Children of serving defence personnel (Army/Navy/Air Force) hailing from Tripura, with at least 5 years' continuous stay in Tripura and Class 12 passed from a Tripura institution. |
Candidates applying under Clause 1 give a self-declaration that they have not applied for domicile of any other state; supplying wrong or false information under any clause is grounds for cancellation of counselling, admission, allotment or nomination at any point, per the notification.
Two Separate Payments,
Both Due at Round 1
| Category | Registration fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC-NCL (State Domicile) | ₹2,500 |
| General-EWS (State Domicile) / OBC-NCL (Non-Domicile) | ₹2,000 |
| SC / ST / PwD / Other | ₹1,800 |
| Seat type | SC/ST | Other categories |
|---|---|---|
| Government college seats | ₹5,000 | ₹10,000 |
| Non-Government, or both Non-Government & Government seats | ₹1,00,000 — all categories | |
Both the registration fee and the security deposit are due together during Round 1 registration, paid via net banking, RTGS, NEFT or UPI. The security deposit is refundable in most circumstances, but is forfeited if a candidate is allotted a seat in Round 2 or later and does not join, or if admission is cancelled due to false information or failure to produce required documents at reporting.
Upgrade Rules Tighten
Round by Round
| Round | If admitted, joined allotted college | If not joined |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | Can upgrade to Round 2; must relieve from Round 1 college if upgraded | Free exit — can participate in further rounds |
| Round 2 | Can upgrade to Round 3, cannot resign | Exit with forfeiture of security deposit; can join further rounds with a fresh deposit |
| Round 3 | Cannot upgrade or resign once joined | Exit with forfeiture and elimination — cannot participate in further rounds |
| Stray Vacancy | Cannot resign once joined | Forfeiture of fees |
There is no AIQ-to-state-quota reversion in Tripura. The notification states this explicitly: unfilled All India Quota seats do not revert to the state quota pool. There is also no waiting list at any stage of Tripura counselling — a fresh round of registration and allotment is held instead, and no separate call letter is issued to any candidate.
105 Seats Are Genuinely Open
to Every State, Right Now
Most state counselling processes shut their doors entirely to non-domicile candidates. Tripura's notification is unusual in explicitly carving out and dating 105 seats — 30 at TMC, 75 at TSMC — specifically for "All India candidates other than Tripura Domicile," on the same portal and the same opening date as the state's own domicile round. For a candidate from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim or Arunachal Pradesh, that is a real, dated opportunity worth registering for on 18 August, not a theoretical All India Quota seat competing nationally through MCC.
Run both routes at once: register for Tripura's All India seats at TMC/TSMC on 18 August, and keep your MCC AIQ registration live in parallel — they are entirely separate processes with separate fees, and a seat in one does not cost you a shot at the other until you actually join.
Compare this against the rest of the Northeast on the master counselling tracker, or see MCC's own Round 1 schedule, which runs in parallel.

Questions Families Ask Us
18 August 2026, on the portal trmcc.admissions.nic.in. This single date covers both tracks notified together on 14 August 2026: Tripura State Quota/Domicile seats for MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, BUMS and BASLP courses, and separately, seats for "All India candidates other than Tripura Domicile" at Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital and Tripura Santiniketan Medical College for the 2026-27 session. The detailed counselling schedule and seat matrix are published separately as Annexure A and B once available.
105 in total for the 2026-27 session: 30 MBBS seats at Tripura Medical College (TMC) & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital, and 75 MBBS seats at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College (TSMC), both reserved for All India candidates other than Tripura domicile, with seat matrices prepared by each college under the Central Reservation Policy, subject to state government approval. These are separate from the 15% All India Quota that MCC allots nationally — this is a state-notified All India category specific to Tripura's own colleges.
No, not under Clause 1, the primary domicile route, which requires the candidate or parents to have resided continuously in Tripura for at least 10 years and explicitly states the applicant should not have applied for domicile of any other state. Four narrower clauses cover children of All India Services officers in the Tripura cadre, children of state or central government employees on deputation to Tripura, wards of ex-servicemen, and children of serving defence personnel from Tripura — each with its own residency test. A candidate from elsewhere in the Northeast without one of these specific connections to Tripura should instead look at the 105 All India seats at TMC and TSMC, or the national 15% All India Quota through MCC.
Registration fee: ₹2,500 for General and OBC-NCL (State Domicile) candidates; ₹2,000 for General-EWS (State Domicile) and OBC-NCL (Non-Domicile) candidates; ₹1,800 for SC/ST/PwD/Other candidates. On top of that, a mandatory, refundable security deposit applies from Round 1 onward: ₹5,000 for SC/ST candidates and ₹10,000 for other categories for Government college seats, but a flat ₹1,00,000 for all categories for Non-Government college seats or any round involving both Government and Non-Government seats. Both the registration fee and security deposit must be paid together during Round 1 registration, via net banking, RTGS, NEFT or UPI.
It depends which round you were admitted in, and the rules tighten as rounds progress. A candidate admitted in Round 1 can participate in Round 2 for upgradation and, if not upgraded, keep the Round 1 seat. A candidate admitted to a Round 2 seat can upgrade in Round 3 but cannot resign it outright — resigning a Round 2 seat forfeits the security deposit. A candidate admitted to a Round 3 seat can neither upgrade nor resign; not joining a Round 3 allotment is treated as exit with forfeiture and elimination from further counselling. There is also no waiting list at any stage — a fresh round of counselling is held instead.
No. The notification states plainly that there will be no AIQ seats reverted to State Quota in Tripura's 2026 counselling. This differs from the practice in some other states, so do not assume an unfilled central seat will become available to a state-quota candidate later in the process.
