What to do now
If you locked choices in Round 3, keep your documents and fee ready. Under MCC’s recent counselling schemes, Round 3 has no free exit: not joining an allotted Round 3 seat usually means losing the security deposit and the chance to take part in the stray vacancy round. Read the Round 3 rules on mcc.nic.in before the result. If you missed Round 3, the stray vacancy round is the last All India chance; watch mcc.nic.in and your state counselling page in parallel.
MCC has reopened Resignation/Seat Withdrawal for Round 1 & Round 2 Freeze/Float candidates who earlier accepted a seat but now want out (Notice No. 23, Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC, dated 17 September 2026) — the window runs from 3:30 PM, 17 September to 6:00 PM, 18 September 2026, WITH forfeiture of security deposit. Separately: MCC released the Round 1 Provisional Result on 20 August 2026 under Notice No. 11, and after the grievance window closed, declared the Final Result on 24 August 2026 under Notice No. 14. For Round 2, registration/payment ran 3–8 September, choice filling/locking closed 9 September, MCC released the first Provisional Result for Round 2 on 10 September (Notice No. 19) and issued a REVISED Provisional Result (Notice No. 20, dated 12 September). No date for the Round 2 Final Result has been announced yet. Every date below, the AIQ closing scores from Round 1, and where this collides with the state deadlines you are already juggling. Update, 27 September 2026: per same-day counselling updates, MCC's Round 3 choice filling is running 23–28 September 2026 (12:00 PM), with registration ending 27 September (3:00 PM) and payment ending 27 September (6:00 PM) — both later than the 10–18 September Round 3 window shown in the table below, which appears to have since been extended; and MCC's Round 3 PwD assessment has been extended, with the Primary Medical Assessment Board sitting up to 5:00 PM, 26 September and re-assessment at Appellate Boards up to 10:30 AM, 28 September. These specific claims carry no MCC notice number we could locate; verify directly at mcc.nic.in before acting.
The short answer. MCC NEET UG 2026 Round 1 registration and payment ran 5 to 15 August 2026; choice filling and locking closed 18 August. Seat allotment processed 19–20 August, and MCC released the Provisional Result on 20 August under Notice No. 11. After the grievance window closed 21 August, MCC declared the Final Result on 24 August 2026 under Notice No. 14 — candidates may now report to their allotted college. The schedule points to reporting running 22 to 31 August 2026, though that window nominally opened before the Final Result itself was out, so confirm your own joining deadline on your candidate login rather than assuming 31 August still holds. MCC covers the 15% All India Quota plus 100% of deemed and central universities, AIIMS and JIPMER, for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing. If you were allotted a seat, see the category and PwBD forms you may need and whether to Freeze or Float. MCC's Round 2 ran registration/payment 3–8 September and choice filling/locking to 9 September; MCC issued a REVISED Provisional Result on 12 September (Notice No. 20), superseding the first Provisional Result of 10 September (Notice No. 19). Update, 18 September. MCC's Notice No. 23 (Ref. Update, 19-20 September (counselling update, no notice number located): a same-day counselling update reports that Round 2 Institute Confirmation/Cancellation of Candidate Admission Within the Stipulated Time closed 11:00 AM, 19 September, and that Round 2 candidates were advised at 12:30 PM, 19 September to check their admission status after logging into their account. Both items are consistent with the 19 September joined-candidate-data-verification step already on this page, but neither carries a dated MCC notice number we could locate — confirm on the Candidate Login Portal at mcc.nic.in.
Notice No. 23, dated 17 September 2026 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC)
Deadline is 6:00 PM, 18 September — with forfeiture of security deposit. In view of many requests from NEET UG 2026 candidates, the competent authority has once again allowed Resignation/Seat Withdrawal for Round 1 & Round 2 FREEZE/FLOAT candidates who had earlier accepted a Round 1 or Round 2 seat allotted through MCC counselling but now want to resign or withdraw from that seat. Freeze/Float (not upgraded) candidates who want to resign their Round 1 or Round 2 joined seat can do so from 3:30 PM, 17 September 2026 up to 6:00 PM, 18 September 2026 — WITH forfeiture of security deposit. This applies across MCC/AIQ-administered seats nationally: the 15% AIQ share in state colleges, deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS institutions and JIPMER — it does not reopen or affect any state counselling authority's own seat-withdrawal process.
FREEZE candidates must report physically. Freeze candidates who want to resign/withdraw from their seat will have to physically report at the allotted institute to resign — there is no online option for Freeze candidates.
FLOAT candidates must resign online, or it is Null & Void. Float candidates (not upgraded) are advised to ensure they resign/withdraw their Round 1 or Round 2 seat by logging into their account and generating a Seat Withdrawal slip online — failing which the resignation will be treated as ‘Null & Void’. Candidates must ensure their Resignation Letter/Seat Withdrawal slip is generated online through the MCC portal, or the resignation does not count.
No claim once resigned. The resignation given within this window is WITH forfeiture of security deposit, and once resigned/the seat is withdrawn, the candidate will have no claim over the resigned seat. This is a one-time reopened window — MCC has not indicated it will be extended again.
Notice No. 14, dated 24 August 2026 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC)
The Final Result is out. Candidates may now proceed to report to their allotted college. Choice filling and locking closed 18 August; seat allotment processed 19–20 August; the Provisional Result for Round 1 was released on 20 August under Notice No. 11; and after the grievance window closed at 3:59 PM on 21 August, MCC declared the Final Result on 24 August 2026 under Notice No. 14. MCC's Round 1 Information Bulletin also introduced the Freeze and Float options for 2026 — read what they mean before you decide how to proceed.
You may now travel to your allotted college. MCC's Notice No. 14 states candidates may proceed to report to their allotted college. The schedule below points to a 22–31 August reporting window, though that window nominally opened before the Final Result itself was declared on 24 August — check your candidate login for your own confirmed joining deadline rather than assuming 31 August still holds for everyone. Category candidates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) and PwBD candidates should also check which forms they will need for reporting — and whether they should Freeze or Float.
Until 2025, every candidate — whether joining a seat for the first time or trying to upgrade from Round 1 to Round 2, or Round 2 to Round 3 — had to physically report to the allotted institute with original documents to complete admission, upgradation or resignation formalities. For 2026, MCC has split candidates into two categories to cut down on unnecessary travel:
You are satisfied with your allotted seat and do not want to be considered for upgradation in the next round. You must still visit the allotted institute physically to join.
You want to be considered for a better seat in the next round. You give your willingness for upgradation and upload the required documents for online verification by the allotted institute — there is no need to visit the institute physically for this.
Read this before you decide. MCC's Notice No. 14, dated 24 August 2026, explicitly points candidates to Chapter 2 of the UG Information Bulletin, “Changes in Allotment, Reporting, Upgradation & Withdrawal (Resignation) of Allotted Seat,” for the full Freeze/Float rules. Choosing Float does not guarantee an upgrade — you keep your current seat if nothing better comes through in the next round, subject to the seat-retention rules in the bulletin. Final means final. The 24 August Final Result supersedes the 20 August provisional list — if your seat changed between the two, the Final Result is the one that counts, not the provisional one. If Round 1 does not work out at all, Round 2 registration for fresh candidates typically opens shortly after Round 1 reporting closes.
Breaking · Two MCC Notices, Both Dated 2 September 2026 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC)
PwD candidates: the Round 2 medical assessment portal is now active. All candidates applying under the PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category are informed that the PwD portal for Round-2 of UG Counselling 2026 is active. The Primary Medical Assessment Board will assess candidates who report by 10:30 AM, 5 September 2026, with assessment to be completed by 6:00 PM, 6 September 2026. The Appellate Medical Assessment Board will separately assess candidates who report by 12:00 Noon, 8 September 2026. Visit your Primary Medical Assessment Centre within the stipulated time as per the revised Round-2 schedule, and make sure your assessment details generate correctly on the MCC portal.
Institutes: newly added Round 2 seats must be verified and frozen. A separate notice, issued the same day under the same reference number, tells participating institutes with new seats added for Round 2 to log in with their PIADMIN User ID, verify the Programme, Quota, Seat Intake and Total Seats shown against their institute, correct any discrepancy, and complete the Final Seat Matrix Freeze within the prescribed timeline — a seat not verified and frozen in time may not be included in the Round 2 seat matrix. The attached list of newly added seats includes several colleges relevant to Northeast India candidates, among them Bongaigaon Medical College, Assam (100 NMC-approved MBBS seats, 15 under All India Quota) and Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh (100 NMC-approved seats, 15 AIQ) — both still shown as unfrozen as of this notice.
A word on the notice numbering: both notices above are labelled “Notice No. 18” under the same reference and the same date, despite covering entirely different subjects (PwD assessment and seat-matrix freeze). That appears to be MCC issuing two separate notices that share a number, not an error on our part — if you're checking the portal yourself, look at the subject line, not just the notice number, to find the right one.
All timings are server time. Same directive as Round 1: all participating institutes must treat Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays as working days for this schedule.

MCC has now issued a REVISED Provisional Result for Round 2, superseding the 10 September result above. Candidates are advised to carefully check their revised provisional result again. Any discrepancy must be brought to MCC/DGHS's notice only through the “Candidates Grievances and Query Redressal System” on the Candidate Login Portal, and only up to 3:00 PM, 12 September 2026 — that grievance window is now closed. As before, the revised provisional result is indicative in nature and subject to change; candidates cannot claim any right over the allotted seat in it; and it cannot be challenged before a court of law. Candidates are advised to approach the allotted college/institute only after the Final Result is declared. MCC has not stated what changed between the two provisional results, so do not assume your earlier status still holds — re-check.
State counselling now lines up with this too. A separate MCC schedule confirms state counselling authorities run their own Round 2 process 7–11 September 2026, share the same 18 September last date of joining, and verify their own joined-candidate data on 19 September — the same day as MCC. Two notes printed on the schedule itself. First, all participating institutes and colleges are directed to treat Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays as working days, given how little time the cycle has left. Do not assume anything pauses for a weekend. Second, state DMEs and state counselling authorities will share joined-candidate data with MCC so duplicate holdings can be weeded out during Round 3 seat processing — which is why holding a seat in two places quietly does not work.
One oddity worth planning around. MCC’s AIQ and State schedule (14 September 2026) puts the start of the UG academic session at 15 September 2026, but Round 3 joining runs to 9 October and stray-round joining to 26 October. A candidate admitted in a later round joins a class already several weeks old. That is not a reason to gamble on a later round hoping for a better college.
Resolved — MCC has now published the Round 2 schedule, and it lines up with state counselling too. AIQ/deemed: seat matrix verification 1–2 September (after Round 1 joining closes 31 August), registration and payment 3–8 September (payment facility open to 6:00 PM, 8 September, server time), choice filling to 10:00 AM on 9 September and choice locking from 4:00 PM on 8 September to 10:00 AM on 9 September, seat allotment processing 9–10 September, and the Provisional Result out 10 September under Notice No. 19 (one day ahead of the originally stated 11 September), revised 12 September under Notice No. 20 — grievances on the revised result closed 3:00 PM, 12 September, Final Result date not yet announced. Reporting/joining is slated for 12–18 September once the Final Result is out, and MCC verifies joined-candidate data on 19 September. The Final Result is out (24 August, Notice No. 14) and supersedes the 20 August provisional list. If you are tracking more than one counselling authority from Guwahati, check each portal separately — MCC and your state authority are on entirely different servers, on entirely different timetables, and a state such as Assam is still catching up to MCC's own revised schedule.
Reporting is open now. MCC's schedule points to a window running to 31 August — comfortable time from Guwahati to reach a college in Karnataka or Tamil Nadu including document collection, provided you book travel promptly rather than waiting. Have your originals ready: Class 10 and 12 certificates, NEET admit card and scorecard, category certificate in MCC's proforma if applicable, and passport photographs — see the full document checklist and downloadable forms.
Seats surrendered by state government medical and dental colleges into the national pool. No domicile bar at all — the single most valuable route for a Northeast candidate with a strong rank, because it puts you in the same queue as everyone else on rank alone.
Every seat in participating deemed universities is filled by MCC. Fees are substantially higher than government colleges, so check the total five-year cost including hostel before you fill a single choice.
Central university seats, AIIMS institutions, and JIPMER at both Puducherry and Karaikal, all through the same MCC process. Rank requirements here are the steepest in the country.
All three courses run through this schedule. If you are weighing BDS seriously as well as MBBS, fill both in one choice list rather than treating them as separate plans.
Once a provisional result is out, the qualifying floor (213 marks) stops mattering and the real number is where each category's last seat closed. Based on OEF's tracking of MCC's AIQ Round 1 provisional data, released 20 August 2026, against the two years before it.

Read this as a provisional signal, not a promise. These are last-seat AIR and score figures from the 20 August 2026 provisional result, before the Final Result and before Round 2/3 typically push closing ranks further out. MBBS UR closed at score 572 this year, up from 534 in 2025 but well below 2024's 660 — a reminder that comparing across years only works if you also account for how each year's paper was scored. SC and ST scores fell versus 2025 even as their AIR numbers moved, because more seats were available at those ranks this cycle. Treat this table as a planning reference for Round 2 choice-filling, not as confirmation of your own Round 1 outcome — check your candidate login for that.
What "closing rank" means here — read the fine print. The UR/OBC/EWS rows above are the closing rank at established, sought-after government colleges — roughly the 95th-percentile college, which is how most rank trackers report "closing rank" and the number worth planning around. It is not the single worst seat filled anywhere in the country. We cross-checked MCC's full Round 1 Provisional Seat Allotment data (29,945 rows, exported 21 August 2026, 5:59 PM) ourselves: the true last seat this year went far deeper at a handful of newly-established, less sought-after government medical colleges still filling Round 1 — Open-category MBBS seats went all the way to All India Rank 6,97,663 (Government Medical College, Eluru), OBC to 8,85,241, and EWS to 10,47,558; BDS Open, OBC and EWS all reached similarly deep, past AIR 10,80,000. SC and ST figures in the table above are different — those already are the true, full-range maximum (verified exact match against our cross-check: 104,921 MBBS-SC, 132,111 MBBS-ST, 153,140 BDS-SC, 177,533 BDS-ST), because reserved-category seats this year didn't develop the same long tail. If your AIR is well above the headline UR/OBC/EWS numbers above, don't assume AIQ is closed to you — a government MBBS or BDS seat at one of these newer colleges may still be within reach. No. MCC Notice No. 25 dated 30 September 2026 says the Round 3 provisional result is only indicative and subject to change, candidates cannot claim any right over the seat in it, and it cannot be challenged in a court of law. Candidates were asked to report any discrepancy through the Candidates Grievances and Query Redressal System by 10:00 AM on 1 October 2026 and to approach the allotted college or institute only after the Final Result is declared. The scheduled Round 3 reporting window is 1 to 9 October 2026; check mcc.nic.in.
Per MCC schedule dated 14 September 2026, the Round 3 result is on 30 September 2026 and Round 3 reporting runs 1-9 October. The online stray vacancy round (Round 4) has registration and payment on 12-14 October, choice filling until 10 AM on 15 October, the result on 17 October and reporting from 19 to 26 October 2026.

Yes. MCC's Notice No. 23 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC, dated 17 September 2026) has reopened Resignation/Seat Withdrawal for Round 1 and Round 2 Freeze/Float candidates who earlier accepted a seat allotted through MCC counselling but now want to resign or withdraw from it. The window runs from 3:30 PM, 17 September 2026 up to 6:00 PM, 18 September 2026 — WITH forfeiture of security deposit. FREEZE candidates who want to resign must physically report at their allotted institute to do so — there is no online option for them. FLOAT (not upgraded) candidates must instead log into their account and generate a Seat Withdrawal slip online, failing which the resignation will be treated as ‘Null and Void’. Whichever route applies to you, once resigned or the seat is withdrawn, you have no claim over that seat. This is a national, MCC/AIQ-wide window covering the 15% All India Quota, deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS institutions and JIPMER — it does not reopen or affect any state counselling authority's own seat-withdrawal process.
MCC issued Notice No. 20 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC, dated 12 September 2026) announcing a REVISED Provisional Result for UG Counselling Round 2 — superseding the Provisional Result first published two days earlier under Notice No. 19 (10 September). Candidates must carefully check their revised provisional result; any discrepancy must be brought to MCC/DGHS's notice only through the Candidates Grievances and Query Redressal System on the Candidate Login Portal, and only up to 3:00 PM on 12 September 2026 — today. As with the earlier notice, MCC is explicit that the revised provisional result is indicative in nature and subject to change, candidates cannot claim any right over the allotted seat in it, and it cannot be challenged before a court of law. Candidates are advised to approach the allotted college/institute only after the Final Result is declared — no date for that has been announced yet. MCC has not stated what specifically changed between the two provisional results, so re-check your own status rather than assume it is unchanged.
Yes, but it is provisional, not final. MCC's Notice No. 19 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC), dated 10 September 2026, states the Provisional Result for UG Counselling Round 2 is now available — one day ahead of the 11 September date originally stated on MCC's own schedule. Candidates must check their result carefully; any discrepancy must be raised only through the Candidates Grievances and Query Redressal System, by 6:00 PM, 10 September 2026. The notice is explicit that the provisional result is indicative in nature and subject to change, candidates cannot claim any right over the allotted seat, and the provisional result cannot be challenged before a court of law. Yes to both, and MCC issued two separate notices on 2 September 2026 covering them. First, the PwD (Persons with Disabilities) assessment portal for Round 2 is now active: the Primary Medical Assessment Board assesses candidates who report by 10:30 AM, 5 September 2026, with assessment completed by 6:00 PM, 6 September; the Appellate Medical Assessment Board separately assesses candidates who report by 12:00 Noon, 8 September. Second, institutes with newly added Round 2 seats — including Bongaigaon Medical College, Assam, and Tomo Riba Institute, Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh, both relevant to Northeast India candidates — must verify and freeze those seats through their PIADMIN login within the prescribed timeline, or the seats may not be included in the Round 2 matrix. Both notices are numbered “Notice No. 18” under the same reference, which appears to be MCC’s own numbering overlap rather than an error here — check the subject line on the portal, not just the number.
5 August 2026. Under the latest revision (dated 19 August 2026, File No. U-11011/07/2026-MEC), it closed at 3:00 PM on 15 August 2026 — a correction from the 2:00 PM close stated in the prior revision (Notice No. 08, 13 August). The payment facility stayed open slightly longer, until 5:00 PM on 15 August. Verification of the tentative seat matrix by participating institutes happened a day earlier, on 4 August 2026. That window is now closed.
Under Notice No. 10, posted 17 August 2026, choice filling for Round 1 was extended a full day and closed at 11:59 PM on 18 August 2026, up from the same-day 6:00 PM close. Choice locking opened earlier the same day, from 5:30 PM on 17 August, and ran alongside filling; MCC did not state a separate closing time for locking, so it is treated as having closed when filling closed. Both are now closed and were not reopened by MCC's 19 August update.
The Final Result is out. MCC released the Round 1 Provisional Result on 20 August 2026 under Notice No. 11; after the grievance window closed at 3:59 PM on 21 August 2026, MCC declared the Round 1 Final Result on 24 August 2026 under Notice No. 14 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC). Candidates may now proceed to report to their allotted college with original documents. The schedule points to a reporting window running 22 to 31 August 2026, though that window nominally opened before the Final Result itself was declared on 24 August — check your candidate login and mcc.nic.in directly for your own confirmed joining deadline rather than assuming 31 August still holds for everyone.
Freeze means you are satisfied with your allotted seat and do not want to be considered for upgradation in the next round; you must still visit the allotted institute physically to join. Float means you want to be considered for a better seat in the next round; you give your willingness for upgradation and upload documents for online verification, with no need to visit the institute physically for that step. This Freeze/Float system is new for 2026, introduced under Chapter 2 of the UG Information Bulletin and referenced in MCC's Notice No. 14 dated 24 August 2026. Read the full bulletin on mcc.nic.in before deciding, since Float does not guarantee an upgrade and you keep your current seat if nothing better comes through.
The 15% All India Quota in government medical and dental colleges, plus 100% of seats in deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS institutions and JIPMER at Puducherry and Karaikal, for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing. There is no domicile requirement anywhere in it. For a candidate from Assam, Nagaland, Manipur or anywhere else in the Northeast, this is the one national process where your home state neither helps nor hurts you — only your All India Rank counts.
Yes. MCC and state counselling run on separate calendars, separate portals and separate fees, and MCC registration gives you nothing in your home state. The two overlap heavily in 2026: most state Round 1 windows closed between 13 and 20 August while MCC Round 1 reporting, under the latest revised schedule, now runs 22 to 31 August. Plan for both at once, because the schedule does not give you the option of doing one and then the other.
