The Final Result is out. Candidates may now proceed to report to their allotted college. Choice filling and locking closed 18 August; seat allotment processed 19–20 August; the Provisional Result for Round 1 was released on 20 August under Notice No. 11; and after the grievance window closed at 3:59 PM on 21 August, MCC declared the Final Result on 24 August 2026 under Notice No. 14. MCC's Round 1 Information Bulletin also introduced the Freeze and Float options for 2026 — read what they mean before you decide how to proceed.
You may now travel to your allotted college. MCC's Notice No. 14 states candidates may proceed to report to their allotted college. The schedule below points to a 22–31 August reporting window, though that window nominally opened before the Final Result itself was declared on 24 August — check your candidate login for your own confirmed joining deadline rather than assuming 31 August still holds for everyone. Category candidates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) and PwBD candidates should also check which forms they will need for reporting — and whether they should Freeze or Float.
Until 2025, every candidate — whether joining a seat for the first time or trying to upgrade from Round 1 to Round 2, or Round 2 to Round 3 — had to physically report to the allotted institute with original documents to complete admission, upgradation or resignation formalities. For 2026, MCC has split candidates into two categories to cut down on unnecessary travel:
You are satisfied with your allotted seat and do not want to be considered for upgradation in the next round. You must still visit the allotted institute physically to join.
You want to be considered for a better seat in the next round. You give your willingness for upgradation and upload the required documents for online verification by the allotted institute — there is no need to visit the institute physically for this.

Final means final. The 24 August Final Result supersedes the 20 August provisional list — if your seat changed between the two, the Final Result is the one that counts, not the provisional one. If Round 1 does not work out at all, Round 2 registration for fresh candidates typically opens shortly after Round 1 reporting closes.
Breaking · Two MCC Notices, Both Dated 2 September 2026 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC)
PwD candidates: the Round 2 medical assessment portal is now active. All candidates applying under the PwD (Persons with Disabilities) category are informed that the PwD portal for Round-2 of UG Counselling 2026 is active. The Primary Medical Assessment Board will assess candidates who report by 10:30 AM, 5 September 2026, with assessment to be completed by 6:00 PM, 6 September 2026. The Appellate Medical Assessment Board will separately assess candidates who report by 12:00 Noon, 8 September 2026. Visit your Primary Medical Assessment Centre within the stipulated time as per the revised Round-2 schedule, and make sure your assessment details generate correctly on the MCC portal.
Institutes: newly added Round 2 seats must be verified and frozen. A separate notice, issued the same day under the same reference number, tells participating institutes with new seats added for Round 2 to log in with their PIADMIN User ID, verify the Programme, Quota, Seat Intake and Total Seats shown against their institute, correct any discrepancy, and complete the Final Seat Matrix Freeze within the prescribed timeline — a seat not verified and frozen in time may not be included in the Round 2 seat matrix. The attached list of newly added seats includes several colleges relevant to Northeast India candidates, among them Bongaigaon Medical College, Assam (100 NMC-approved MBBS seats, 15 under All India Quota) and Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences, Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh (100 NMC-approved seats, 15 AIQ) — both still shown as unfrozen as of this notice.
A word on the notice numbering: both notices above are labelled “Notice No. 18” under the same reference and the same date, despite covering entirely different subjects (PwD assessment and seat-matrix freeze). That appears to be MCC issuing two separate notices that share a number, not an error on our part — if you're checking the portal yourself, look at the subject line, not just the notice number, to find the right one.
All timings are server time. Same directive as Round 1: all participating institutes must treat Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays as working days for this schedule.

Provisional Result out, 10 September — not final yet. MCC's Notice No. 19 (Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC, dated 10.09.2026) states plainly: candidates must check their result carefully, any discrepancy must reach MCC only through the Candidates Grievances and Query Redressal System by 6:00 PM, 10 September 2026, the provisional result is indicative in nature and subject to change, candidates cannot claim any right over the allotted seat, and the provisional result cannot be challenged before a court of law. Candidates are advised to approach the allotted college/institute only after the Final Result is declared — no Final Result date has been announced yet.
State counselling now lines up with this too. A separate MCC schedule confirms state counselling authorities run their own Round 2 process 7–11 September 2026, share the same 18 September last date of joining, and verify their own joined-candidate data on 19 September — the same day as MCC. Two notes printed on the schedule itself. First, all participating institutes and colleges are directed to treat Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted holidays as working days, given how little time the cycle has left. Do not assume anything pauses for a weekend. Second, state DMEs and state counselling authorities will share joined-candidate data with MCC so duplicate holdings can be weeded out during Round 3 seat processing — which is why holding a seat in two places quietly does not work.
One oddity worth planning around. The academic session for UG courses commences on 8 September 2026, but Round 3 joining runs to 26 September and stray vacancy joining to 10 October. A candidate admitted in a later round joins a class already several weeks old. That is not a reason to gamble on a later round hoping for a better college.
Resolved — MCC has now published the Round 2 schedule, and it lines up with state counselling too. AIQ/deemed: seat matrix verification 1–2 September (after Round 1 joining closes 31 August), registration and payment 3–8 September (payment facility open to 6:00 PM, 8 September, server time), choice filling to 10:00 AM on 9 September and choice locking from 4:00 PM on 8 September to 10:00 AM on 9 September, seat allotment processing 9–10 September, and the Provisional Result out 10 September under Notice No. 19 (one day ahead of the originally stated 11 September) — grievances by 6:00 PM the same day, Final Result date not yet announced. Reporting/joining is slated for 12–18 September once the Final Result is out, and MCC verifies joined-candidate data on 19 September. The Final Result is out (24 August, Notice No. 14) and supersedes the 20 August provisional list. If you are tracking more than one counselling authority from Guwahati, check each portal separately — MCC and your state authority are on entirely different servers, on entirely different timetables, and a state such as Assam is still catching up to MCC's own revised schedule.
Reporting is open now. MCC's schedule points to a window running to 31 August — comfortable time from Guwahati to reach a college in Karnataka or Tamil Nadu including document collection, provided you book travel promptly rather than waiting. Have your originals ready: Class 10 and 12 certificates, NEET admit card and scorecard, category certificate in MCC's proforma if applicable, and passport photographs — see the full document checklist and downloadable forms.
Seats surrendered by state government medical and dental colleges into the national pool. No domicile bar at all — the single most valuable route for a Northeast candidate with a strong rank, because it puts you in the same queue as everyone else on rank alone.
Every seat in participating deemed universities is filled by MCC. Fees are substantially higher than government colleges, so check the total five-year cost including hostel before you fill a single choice.
Central university seats, AIIMS institutions, and JIPMER at both Puducherry and Karaikal, all through the same MCC process. Rank requirements here are the steepest in the country.
All three courses run through this schedule. If you are weighing BDS seriously as well as MBBS, fill both in one choice list rather than treating them as separate plans.

Read this as a provisional signal, not a promise. These are last-seat AIR and score figures from the 20 August 2026 provisional result, before the Final Result and before Round 2/3 typically push closing ranks further out. MBBS UR closed at score 572 this year, up from 534 in 2025 but well below 2024's 660 — a reminder that comparing across years only works if you also account for how each year's paper was scored. SC and ST scores fell versus 2025 even as their AIR numbers moved, because more seats were available at those ranks this cycle. Treat this table as a planning reference for Round 2 choice-filling, not as confirmation of your own Round 1 outcome — check your candidate login for that.
What "closing rank" means here — read the fine print. The UR/OBC/EWS rows above are the closing rank at established, sought-after government colleges — roughly the 95th-percentile college, which is how most rank trackers report "closing rank" and the number worth planning around. It is not the single worst seat filled anywhere in the country. We cross-checked MCC's full Round 1 Provisional Seat Allotment data (29,945 rows, exported 21 August 2026, 5:59 PM) ourselves: the true last seat this year went far deeper at a handful of newly-established, less sought-after government medical colleges still filling Round 1 — Open-category MBBS seats went all the way to All India Rank 6,97,663 (Government Medical College, Eluru), OBC to 8,85,241, and EWS to 10,47,558; BDS Open, OBC and EWS all reached similarly deep, past AIR 10,80,000. SC and ST figures in the table above are different — those already are the true, full-range maximum (verified exact match against our cross-check: 104,921 MBBS-SC, 132,111 MBBS-ST, 153,140 BDS-SC, 177,533 BDS-ST), because reserved-category seats this year didn't develop the same long tail. If your AIR is well above the headline UR/OBC/EWS numbers above, don't assume AIQ is closed to you — a government MBBS or BDS seat at one of these newer colleges may still be within reach. Under the latest revision (dated 19 August 2026, File No. U-11011/07/2026-MEC), it closed at 3:00 PM on 15 August 2026 — a correction from the 2:00 PM close stated in the prior revision (Notice No. 08, 13 August). The payment facility stayed open slightly longer, until 5:00 PM on 15 August. Verification of the tentative seat matrix by participating institutes happened a day earlier, on 4 August 2026. That window is now closed.
Under Notice No. 10, posted 17 August 2026, choice filling for Round 1 was extended a full day and closed at 11:59 PM on 18 August 2026, up from the same-day 6:00 PM close. Choice locking opened earlier the same day, from 5:30 PM on 17 August, and ran alongside filling; MCC did not state a separate closing time for locking, so it is treated as having closed when filling closed. Both are now closed and were not reopened by MCC's 19 August update.

Yes. MCC and state counselling run on separate calendars, separate portals and separate fees, and MCC registration gives you nothing in your home state. The two overlap heavily in 2026: most state Round 1 windows closed between 13 and 20 August while MCC Round 1 reporting, under the latest revised schedule, now runs 22 to 31 August.
