A Word From OEF

Let Us Have an Honest
Conversation About BDS

Every year in Guwahati, we sit across from families who come in with one question burning in their mind — "Doctor banna tha, but NEET score thoda kam aya. Ab kya?"

We understand that feeling completely. You studied hard. Your family supported you. And the score wasn't what you hoped. That is genuinely difficult, and we respect that.

But here is what 17 years of working with Northeast India students has taught us: the students who chose BDS honestly and wholeheartedly — not as a "second choice" but as their profession — are doing extremely well today.

We know a dentist in Jorhat earning ₹1.2 Lakhs per month from his own clinic — 4 years after graduating BDS. We know another in Shillong who started with a small practice and now has two clinics and three staff. These are real people whose admissions we guided.

"The question is not whether BDS is good or bad. The question is — are you willing to commit to it fully? If yes, the career will reward you handsomely."

— Dr. Kausshik Hazaricka, MBBS · Founder, OEF

We will give you the complete picture — fees, colleges, career earnings, the honest comparison with MBBS — so you can make a decision your whole family is confident about. That is our promise.

How BDS Admission Actually Works —
No Confusion, Just Clarity

We explain this to every family the same way — simply, clearly, without jargon.

NEET UG Exam

Appear and qualify. Even a passing score opens BDS management quota doors.

Call OEF on Result Day

We analyse your score immediately and show you the best colleges available for your score and budget.

College Confirmation

OEF confirms seat availability directly with the dental college management. No middlemen.

Document Submission

We prepare your complete document kit. Submission handled with our guidance.

Seat Confirmed

You join your dental college. OEF assists with travel, hostel, and joining day.

Warning — The Deposit Trap: State counselling authorities collect ₹1–2 Lakhs as security deposit. Accept a BDS seat in Round 2 or Mop-up and don't join? That money is permanently forfeited. OEF's Round 1 strategy ensures your deposit is always safe.

Timeline: NEET result (June 2026) → MCC/State counselling (July–August 2026) → Management quota seats open on result day itself → OEF confirms seats within 48–72 hours of result. Time is of the essence — pre-register with OEF now.

Your Future After BDS

BDS Career Scope in India —
What Nobody Tells You

Most people talk about BDS fees. Very few talk about what the career actually looks like five years after graduation. We will.

Career Paths After BDS

Private Dental Practice

The most popular route. After BDS, you can open your own clinic or join an existing one. In Tier-2 cities of Northeast India — Silchar, Jorhat, Imphal, Shillong — there is genuine shortage of qualified dentists. A well-run practice in these cities can earn ₹60,000–₹1.5 Lakhs per month within 3–4 years.

MDS — Postgraduate Specialisation

After BDS + 1-year internship, you can appear for NEET MDS and pursue a 3-year specialisation. MDS specialists in Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, and Implantology earn ₹2–5 Lakhs per month and are in extremely high demand. This is where the really big earnings are.

Government Jobs

State Public Service Commissions, UPSC, and Defence Services (Army Dental Corps) recruit BDS graduates as Dental Officers. Government dental officer salary: ₹50,000–₹1.2 Lakhs/month with full benefits. Excellent job security for those who prefer that stability.

MDS Specialisations — 2026

MDS is the gateway to significantly higher earnings. These are the most sought-after MDS specialisations and their approximate market earnings in India:

Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics ₹2–5L/mo
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery ₹2–4L/mo
Prosthodontics & Crown & Bridge ₹1.5–3.5L/mo
Periodontology (Gum Specialist) ₹1–2.5L/mo
Pedodontics (Children's Dentist) ₹1–2.5L/mo
Oral Medicine & Radiology ₹80K–₹1.5L/mo

NE India Advantage: Dental specialists are extremely rare in most NE Indian cities. A well-trained MDS Orthodontist in Imphal or Agartala charges ₹15,000–₹25,000 per case for braces — and has a waiting list. This scarcity is an opportunity for BDS graduates from NE India.

Honest Comparison

OEF's Honest Verdict

If you have the budget and a high enough NEET score for MBBS in a good college — go for MBBS. We will always tell you that clearly. But if your score is in the 200–400 range, or your budget is ₹20–40 Lakhs total, then BDS is not a compromise — it is the right decision. A BDS graduate who commits fully to their profession and later does MDS will earn more than many MBBS doctors who are still waiting for government job postings. This is the reality of 2026 India.

Your Questions Answered

BDS Admission 2026 — FAQs

These are the questions every BDS aspirant from Northeast India asks us. Answered honestly.

What is the minimum NEET score for BDS management quota?

For BDS management quota, you only need to qualify NEET UG at the minimum qualifying percentile — approximately 137+ marks for General category. There is no higher cutoff requirement for management quota seats. Students with scores as low as 200–250 have gotten BDS management quota admissions in good private dental colleges in West Bengal and Rajasthan. Call OEF immediately after results — 9085064444.

Is BDS better than BAMS? Which should I choose?

Both BDS and BAMS are excellent careers — the choice depends on your interests and budget. BDS focuses on dental healthcare and has strong private practice earnings, especially with MDS specialisation. BAMS is a full Ayurvedic medicine degree with broader scope, lower fees, and growing demand. If you're genuinely interested in dental work and can invest ₹20–40 Lakhs total, BDS is the stronger choice. If budget is tight or you're drawn to holistic medicine, BAMS is excellent. OEF will guide you honestly based on your specific situation — this is a 30-minute free conversation, not a sales pitch.

How much does a dentist earn per month in Northeast India?

In Northeast India's Tier-2 cities — Jorhat, Silchar, Imphal, Agartala, Dimapur — a dentist with 3–5 years of experience and their own clinic earns approximately ₹50,000–₹1.5 Lakhs per month. In Guwahati, experienced dentists earn ₹1–2.5 Lakhs per month. The demand for dental services in NE India is significantly underserved, meaning qualified dentists have very high patient footfall with minimal competition compared to metro cities.

Can I do government job after BDS in Assam or other NE states?

Yes. All NE state governments recruit Dental Officers through their State Public Service Commissions. Assam PSC, Meghalaya PSC, Manipur PSC, and others have dental officer vacancies regularly. Additionally, the Government of India's Health Ministry recruits BDS holders through Central Health Services. The Army Dental Corps also recruits BDS graduates as Short Service Commission officers. Government dental officer salary starts at approximately ₹56,000–₹75,000/month (Level 10–11 pay matrix) with full DA, HRA, and allowances.

What is NEET MDS and when can I appear?

NEET MDS (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test — Master of Dental Surgery) is the postgraduate entrance exam for MDS courses in India. After completing BDS and your 1-year compulsory rotating internship, you become eligible to appear for NEET MDS. The exam is conducted by NTA twice a year. MDS is a 3-year specialisation that dramatically increases your earning potential — MDS Orthodontists can earn ₹2–5 Lakhs per month in private practice.
