The Selection Committee has published a Tentative Round-II Counselling Schedule for admission to MBBS & BDS degree courses in Tamil Nadu Government Medical & Dental Colleges, ESIC Medical College K.K. Nagar Chennai, and Government & Management Quota (including NRI) seats in self-financing medical colleges (including Christian Medical College, Vellore) and dental colleges, state private universities, and Wards of IRT candidates — for Re-Allotment/Allotment in the 2026-2027 session. Registration and payment (for candidates who have not already paid) runs 7–8 September; the rank range on this table is GQ GR001–GR35926 (NEET marks 705–177) and MQ GR001–GR26956 (NEET marks 693–177). Choice filling and locking follows 9–13 September.

Round 1 registration, choice filling and choice locking closed at 5:00 PM on 24 August 2026, after the Selection Committee, DME Kilpauk, Chennai, extended the window a second time, citing the revised UG State Schedule 2026 released by MCC of DGHS on 19 August 2026 — a second extension in three days, superseding the 20 August deadline set by Notification No.17/SCS1(1)/2026 on 18 August. Because choice filling ran later, the seat allotment result — originally scheduled for 21 August under the pre-extension timetable — was also pushed back: allotment processed 25 and 26 August, and the result was published 27 August, six days later than first planned. Allotment orders were downloadable from 27 August through 5 September, 12:00 noon, and the last date to report for Round 1 was 5 September 2026, 5:00 PM. That cycle is now complete; Round 2 above is the current, open cycle.

Provisional rank lists were released 12 August 2026, with special-category (PWD, Sports, Ex-servicemen and the 7.5% government-school quota) allotments on 14 August, and addendums to the rank lists, following court orders, continued through 24 August 2026.

The Selection Committee processes allotment and publishes a provisional result, then a final result, usually within a day or two of each other. The allotment order is downloaded from the portal.
Report to the allotted college with originals by the notified last date of joining. In recent cycles that has been about a week after the final allotment — not enough time to arrange travel from the Northeast at the last minute. Plan the trip while choices are still open.

State authorities extend and revise deadlines at short notice, sometimes with only a few hours' warning, so treat this page as a starting point and confirm the current date on the official portal before you pay any fee. MCC has updated its own All India Quota counselling scheme for 2026-27 with three changes: candidates are now sorted into Freeze (no further upgradation) and Float (open to upgrading in later rounds) categories; Float candidates go through online document verification by the allotted institute rather than reporting in person straight away; and seat surrender or resignation now runs through a digital workflow on the MCC portal.
None of that is new to Tamil Nadu's own state counselling. The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, already runs a centralised document verification system — certificates are scrutinised when you apply, with physical verification only at the point of joining. Resignation has been digital-only for a while, done strictly through tnmedicalselection.net, with offline resignation not accepted at all. And upgrading from Round 1 to Round 2, or Round 2 to Round 3, is already built into the state prospectus.
What Notification No.10/SCS1(1)/2026 actually says. For the current academic session, 2026-27, the Selection Committee is retaining its existing state policy and procedures. Every admission — Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority and NRI seats in MBBS and BDS — continues to follow Government Orders G.O.(D) No.667 and G.O.(D) No.695 and the clauses already published in the State Prospectus. The notice adds that any future alignment with MCC's national framework will only happen in a later year, and only with advance notice.
If you are applying through Tamil Nadu state counselling, this notice changes nothing about what you actually have to do. It exists because families were seeing “Freeze/Float” mentioned in national NEET news and asking whether it applied to their Tamil Nadu application. It does not, at least not this year.

Yes, twice. Notification No.17/SCS1(1)/2026, dated 18 August 2026, first extended Round 1 registration, choice filling and choice locking together to 5:00 PM on 20 August 2026, following MCC's own extension of All India Quota counselling under Ref. U-11011/07/2026-MEC, dated 17 August 2026. Then Notification No.20/SCS1(1)/2026, dated 20 August 2026, revised the schedule again citing MCC's revised UG State Schedule of 19 August 2026, and pushed registering, filling and locking choices to 5:00 PM on 24 August 2026. Seat allotment now processes 25 and 26 August, and the result — originally scheduled for 21 August before these extensions — now publishes 27 August; allotment orders can be downloaded 27 August to 5 September (12:00 noon), and the last date to report for Round 1 is 5 September 2026, 5:00 PM.
The Selection Committee under the Directorate of Medical Education opened online registration on 29 June 2026 at tnmedicalselection.net. By 17 July more than 41,000 completed applications had been received, and the registration window has since closed. Provisional rank lists followed on 12 August, Round 1 choice filling and locking closed on 24 August after two extensions, and the seat allotment result — originally due 21 August — is now postponed to 27 August. Because it runs three parallel selection streams and each needs its own merit order: a Government Quota list, a Management Quota list, and a list for the 7.5% reservation for students who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools. A candidate can appear on more than one list. Check which list carries your name before you plan your choices — families regularly track the wrong one.
Tamil Nadu reserves 7.5% of MBBS and BDS seats for candidates who studied in Tamil Nadu government schools and qualified NEET. It is a state-specific horizontal reservation with its own eligibility documentation and its own rank list. It is not available to candidates schooled outside Tamil Nadu, and it is not related to caste category.
For the government quota, no — those seats go to Tamil Nadu candidates meeting the state's eligibility and nativity conditions. The management quota rank list is the route that is open to out-of-state candidates in private medical and dental colleges, and there is also the 15% All India Quota in Tamil Nadu government colleges, filled by MCC. Tamil Nadu's private colleges are well regarded and heavily subscribed, so budget and rank realism both matter here.
tnmedicalselection.net is the operative portal, with tnhealth.tn.gov.in carrying departmental notices. Rank lists are published as downloadable PDFs. The Selection Committee has historically issued round schedules at short notice — in 2024 the gap between the provisional rank list and the start of choice filling was two days — so once the rank list appears, check the portal daily.
No. Notification No.10/SCS1(1)/2026, dated 3 August 2026, confirms Tamil Nadu is retaining its existing state counselling policy for 2026-27 — the Freeze/Float categorisation, online Float verification and digital seat-surrender workflow are changes to MCC's own All India Quota process, not to Tamil Nadu's state counselling. Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority and NRI admissions continue under G.O.(D) No.667 and G.O.(D) No.695 and the published State Prospectus.
