NEIGRIHMS MBBS Admission 2026-27 —
2nd Round Counselling, 11 September

A central government institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with fees under ₹50,000 for the first year and eighteen seats open to candidates from all eight Northeast states. For an NE family, few opportunities in the whole admission calendar are worth more attention than this one. The 1st Counselling was held 22 August 2026. NEIGRIHMS has now called candidates for a 2nd Round Counselling on 11 September 2026, hybrid mode, to fill 11 vacant seats under the North East Open Category — and if you are on the list, you must act today.

Last verified · 9 September 2026 · against NEIGRIHMS's 2nd Round Counselling Notice, F.No.RGTRR-MBBS0ADMN/1/2026-Registrar, dated 8 September 2026

The short answer. NEIGRIHMS Shillong is holding a 2nd Round Counselling on 11 September 2026 at 10:00 AM, in hybrid mode (physical or online), to fill 11 vacant seats under the North East Open Category — 18 seats total in that category; the 1st Round Counselling was held 22 August 2026. Candidates on the round-2 merit list scored 540 and above in NEET UG 2026. Candidates joining online must confirm participation by emailing ar-academic@neigrihms.gov.in on or before 2:00 PM today, 9 September 2026. Candidates opting for physical counselling must report in person between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM on 11 September with original and photocopy documents. Candidates called for this round who fail to appear forfeit their claim and will not be eligible for any 3rd round. Per notice F.No.RGTRR-MBBS0ADMN/1/2026-Registrar, dated 8 September 2026. There are 50 seats in total at NEIGRIHMS: Meghalaya 14, Nagaland 10, NE Open 18, and 8 on a common All India basis.

2nd Round Counselling —
11 Vacant Seats, 11 September

NEIGRIHMS issued a fresh notice on 8 September 2026 (F.No.RGTRR-MBBS0ADMN/1/2026-Registrar) calling candidates for a 2nd Round Counselling on 11 September 2026 at 10:00 AM, in hybrid mode (physical or online via video conference), for 11 vacant seats out of the 18-seat North East Open Category. The venue is the College Council Room, Undergraduate Medical College Building, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong. Candidates on the round-2 merit list are those who reported and attended the 1st Round Counselling on 22 August 2026 and scored 540 and above in NEET-UG 2026, and who meet the eligibility conditions below.

Why 11 seats are open now. The notice does not spell out the arithmetic. A 2nd round for 11 of the 18 North East Open seats implies that a number of the candidates provisionally allotted in the 1st round (closing AIR 25,099, reported above) did not complete admission by the earlier 5 September reporting deadline and forfeited their seats. Treat this as the current, official seat count for Round 2 — we are not aware of a separate NEIGRIHMS statement itemising exactly how many of the original 18 allottees actually joined.

Method of counselling — read this before you travel. Candidates are called strictly in order of merit; seats are allotted serially, after document verification and an eligibility check, until the vacant seats are filled. Calling a candidate for counselling does not mean allotment of a seat, and attending the counselling does not confer any right to claim a seat or admission under any circumstances. The Counselling Committee reserves the right to fill or keep any number of seats vacant for valid reasons, and candidates who fail to attend counselling or the medical examination on the notified date forfeit their claim and their place on the waiting list. Certificates in any language other than Hindi or English need a Gazetted Officer's translation attached, and a defective original certificate forfeits eligibility for admission outright.

Fees due on the day of counselling. Selected candidates submit a declaration of acceptance and original documents, and pay an admission fee of ₹47,600 via the institute's payment link (CCAvenue / Bank of Baroda), plus a mess fee of ₹10,950, deposited quarterly starting at admission. Non-acceptance or non-reporting by the stipulated date cancels the seat, which is filled in a subsequent counselling without further individual communication.

No 3rd round for 2nd-round no-shows. If seats remain unfilled after this 2nd Counselling, NEIGRIHMS will hold a 3rd Counselling at a later date — but candidates who are called for this 2nd Counselling and fail to appear will not be eligible for the 3rd. The decision of the Counselling Committee is final and binding on all candidates.

The notice includes a merit list of 41 named candidates called for this round, with their NEET-UG scores, All India Ranks and domicile states. We do not reproduce that list here out of respect for candidates' privacy — check your own name and rank against the official notice on neigrihms.gov.in, or contact the NEIGRIHMS Registrar's office directly, rather than relying on any third-party copy of the list.

The 1st Counselling —
Hybrid, and Provisional If You Join Online

The prospectus originally left the counselling date to be announced later. NEIGRIHMS fixed it on 11 August: 22 August 2026 (Saturday), run in hybrid mode so candidates can attend either online by video conference or in person at the institute in Shillong.

Non-reporting cancels the allotment and forfeits the seat to the 2nd Counselling.
8 September 2026Commencement of the 2026-27 session

Result is out — here is exactly who got a seat. The Provisional Allotment Letter (F. No. RGTRR-MBBS0ADM/1/2026-Registrar, dated 25 August 2026) records that 101 candidates were called for the 22 August counselling. Of these, the top 18 by NEET UG 2026 merit were provisionally allotted NE Open seats, at a closing score of 567/720 (All India Rank 25,099). The next 41 candidates who were present at the counselling remain listed without a seat — they are not rejected outright, but they have no allotment either. Everyone else who was called but did not respond or appear was marked absent and, per the letter, is not eligible for the 2nd round. If your name is among the 18, the 5 September reporting deadline above applies to you directly.

Online attendance is a convenience, not a shortcut on paperwork. Selection announced during an online session is provisional exactly like a physical one — the difference is that online candidates get until 5 September (revised from 28 August), rather than the same day, to get original documents in front of the institute and complete verification. Missing that window has the same consequence as missing counselling itself.

No call letters are sent

The list of candidates called for counselling, and any waiting list, goes up on www.neigrihms.gov.in. NEIGRIHMS does not send individual call letters. Checking the website for your own date is your responsibility, and people miss seats over exactly this.

Attend in person, at your own cost

You must appear with originals of every document and undergo a medical examination by the Institute's Medical Board. A candidate found medically unfit is not admitted. Miss the notified counselling or medical date and you forfeit the claim; the seat goes to the waiting list in a second or third round.

Ineligibility is fatal at any stage

If ineligibility is detected before or after admission, the candidature is summarily rejected. False or concealed information means being debarred from admission entirely. Check every condition against your own papers before paying the ₹500 processing fee.

About the institute. The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong, is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, established in 1987. Its MBBS course is affiliated to North Eastern Hill University, runs 4 years and 6 months plus a compulsory one-year rotatory internship, and is taught entirely in English. Disputes over counselling and admission fall under the jurisdiction of the Meghalaya High Court, Shillong.

Where OEF fits, and where it does not. NEIGRIHMS runs its own registration, counselling and admission through its own portal. We have no role in it, cannot submit or track your application, and cannot influence the merit list — nobody can, and anyone claiming otherwise should be reported. What we do is make sure your documents will survive verification, that your fallback options are registered before the NEIGRIHMS list is published, and that your family understands the bond before you sign it.

How to use this page. Every date here was checked on 9 September 2026, against the 2nd Round Counselling Notice dated 8 September 2026 (F.No.RGTRR-MBBS0ADMN/1/2026-Registrar) and the institute's own website. State authorities extend and revise deadlines at short notice, sometimes with only a few hours' warning, so treat this page as a starting point and confirm the current date on the official portal before you pay any fee. We are not an agent of any counselling authority, we cannot influence any allotment, and no seat in India can be obtained without a valid NEET UG 2026 score.

NEIGRIHMS FAQs

Questions Parents Ask Us

Is NEIGRIHMS holding a Second Round of counselling, and who is eligible?
+

Yes. A notice dated 8 September 2026 (F.No.RGTRR-MBBS0ADMN/1/2026-Registrar) calls candidates for a 2nd Round Counselling on 11 September 2026 at 10:00 AM, in hybrid mode, to fill 11 vacant seats under the 18-seat North East Open Category. Eligible candidates are those who attended the 1st Round Counselling on 22 August 2026, scored 540 or above in NEET-UG 2026, hold a bonafide Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) from any of the eight North Eastern states including Sikkim, applied for the North East Open Quota, and submitted their NEET-UG 2026 score card to NEIGRIHMS. Online participants must confirm attendance by emailing ar-academic@neigrihms.gov.in by 2:00 PM on 9 September 2026; physical attendees report in person between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM on 11 September 2026 with original documents. The notice's merit list of named candidates is not reproduced here — check your own name against the official notice on neigrihms.gov.in.

What is the NEIGRIHMS MBBS 2026-27 application deadline?
+

17 August 2026. The prospectus and the online application went live on 27 July 2026 at www.neigrihms.gov.in, under the MBBS Course 2026-2027 link marked for domicile of the North Eastern Region. The application costs ₹500 to process. An incomplete application is summarily rejected and the prospectus states that no correspondence will be entertained on the point.

How are the 50 NEIGRIHMS MBBS seats distributed?
+

Meghalaya 14, Nagaland 10, NE Open 18 — covering all eight North Eastern states including Sikkim — and 8 on a common All India basis. The prospectus notes that these figures can change on directions from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, so treat the matrix as current rather than permanent.

Which seats can an Assam, Manipur or Tripura candidate compete for?
+

The 18 NE Open seats, in practice. The Meghalaya and Nagaland quotas are closed to candidates from other states, so for an applicant from Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh or Sikkim, the NE Open pool is effectively the whole competition, decided strictly on NEET UG 2026 score and percentile against every other eligible applicant from all eight states. Meghalaya and Nagaland applicants compete for their own quotas first and are also considered under NE Open.

What does NEIGRIHMS MBBS cost?
+

First-year fees total ₹47,600 per the prospectus — ₹10,000 admission fee, ₹1,000 university enrolment and registration, ₹3,000 annual tuition, ₹2,000 library, ₹3,000 laboratory, ₹5,000 hostel, ₹2,600 combined for sports, magazine, cultural, health care and students' body fees, and a ₹20,000 refundable security deposit. Mess fees of ₹10,950 are deposited separately at admission and then quarterly.

What is the NEIGRIHMS bond?
+

Every selected candidate signs a bond on stamp paper at admission. If you leave the course without completing it, the bond amount is ₹10,00,000 — ten lakh rupees. It is not paid upfront; it is a financial commitment tied to finishing the degree. Families should understand this clause before accepting a seat, not after. It is one of the reasons we sit down with parents rather than just sending a link.

When is the NEIGRIHMS MBBS 1st Counselling, and can I attend online?
+

22 August 2026 (Saturday), in hybrid mode — both online via video conference and physical attendance at the institute. This was fixed by a notice dated 11 August 2026, partially modifying Point 11.iii of the prospectus, which had left the date to be announced separately. Candidates attending online must join a mandatory mock drill on 21 August 2026 (Friday) from 3:00 PM onwards, to test the video conferencing link before the real thing. The links for both the mock drill and the counselling itself are shared in a separate notification uploaded after the application deadline of 17 August 2026 — check neigrihms.gov.in regularly rather than waiting for an email.

What was the result of the NEIGRIHMS MBBS 1st Counselling held on 22 August 2026?
+

The Provisional Allotment Letter (F. No. RGTRR-MBBS0ADM/1/2026-Registrar, dated 25 August 2026) shows 18 candidates provisionally allotted seats under the NE Open category, at a closing NEET UG 2026 score of 567/720 (All India Rank 25,099). A total of 101 candidates had been called for the counselling; the 41 next-highest-ranked candidates who were present remain on the list without a seat, and everyone else who was called but did not respond or appear has been marked absent and is not eligible for the 2nd round.

Has the NEIGRIHMS document verification and fee payment deadline changed from 28 August?
+

Yes. The same Provisional Allotment Letter, dated 25 August 2026, extends the deadline for physical reporting, document verification, the Bond Agreement, Medical Examination and payment of the ₹47,600 admission fee from 28 August 2026 to on or before 5 September 2026, citing a revised MCC schedule communicated on the day of counselling. Non-reporting by 5 September 2026 cancels the provisional allotment; the seat is forfeited without further notice and filled in the 2nd Counselling.

If I attend NEIGRIHMS counselling online, is my admission final that day?
+

No. Admission for candidates appearing online is explicitly provisional, subject to verification of original documents and completion of other admission formalities, which are now due on or before 5 September 2026 (revised from 28 August, per the Provisional Allotment Letter dated 25 August 2026, citing a revised MCC schedule). Physical attendees complete verification the same day as counselling; online attendees have this separate window afterward to travel to Shillong and confirm the seat in person. Do not treat online selection alone as a secured seat until that verification is done.

When does the NEIGRIHMS MBBS 2026-27 session actually start?
+

8 September 2026, confirmed again in the Provisional Allotment Letter dated 25 August 2026, which cites the NEET-UG Schedule 2026. Document verification and fee payment are now due by 5 September 2026 (revised from 28 August) — only three days before classes start, so travel and hostel arrangements need to be locked in immediately after allotment, not left for later.
