| Question | Answer |

| What is NEET-SS? | The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Specialty courses, conducted by NBEMS. Its result is the only route into DM, MCh and DrNB super-speciality seats in India |
| Who can sit it? | Doctors with an MD, MS or DNB (or about to complete one) in the feeder speciality the bulletin lists for each group. Your feeder degree decides which group you can take |
| How is it organised? | In groups by feeder speciality, for example the Medical group for MD/DNB General Medicine and the Surgical group for MS/DNB General Surgery. Check the 2026 bulletin for the full list of groups and the super-speciality courses in each |
| Who counsels the seats? | The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) runs NEET-SS counselling for seats in government, private and deemed institutions; some states counsel their own in-service seats, and vacancies revert to MCC |
| When does counselling happen? | After the result. In the last cycle, NEET-SS 2025 Round 1 results came in March 2026 (6,035 seats allotted), and a special stray round in September 2026 offered 1,814 vacant DM, MCh and DrNB seats |

Was Lowered by Court Order
For the 2025 cycle’s special stray round, the NEET-SS qualifying percentile was reduced from the 50th to the 30th percentile, in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order of 17 September 2026 in Tamil Nadu Medical Officers Association & Anr. vs. Union of India & Ors., as MCC confirmed in its notice of 28 September 2026 (Careers360 report). The 2026 qualifying criteria will be in the 2026 bulletin and later MCC notices; do not assume the reduced percentile carries over.
