Three Real Changes

What Is Different
About NEET PG This Year

180 questions, not 200

The paper has been shortened by twenty questions. Marking is unchanged at plus four and minus one. With fewer questions carrying the same weight of consequence, a single careless negative marking decision costs proportionally more than it did last year.

Test cities are no longer first-come-first-served

NBEMS scrapped the old rush-to-apply advantage. Applicants chose three preferred test states in the form, and a separate city selection step follows, subject to availability. For candidates travelling from Guwahati, Shillong or Imphal this is a genuine improvement — but confirm your city on 11 August and book travel then, not before.

Application fee reduced

NBEMS lowered the fee for this cycle. General, unreserved, OBC and EWS candidates paid ₹3,500; SC, ST and PwD candidates paid ₹2,500. Minor in the scheme of a PG budget, but it removed one small barrier for candidates who were undecided about applying.

Plan the Counselling, Not Just the Exam

The Month Between Result
and Choice Filling Decides Everything

Documents ready before the result

MBBS degree or provisional certificate, internship completion certificate dated on or before 30 September 2026, permanent or provisional state medical council registration, Class 10 certificate, category certificate, and a valid photo ID. Council registration in particular takes time in several NE states. Start it now.

Decide clinical versus non-clinical early

Choice filling is not the moment to work out whether you can live with Anatomy or Community Medicine for three years. Have that conversation with your family in September, on paper, with real closing-rank data in front of you. MD/MS overview →

DNB is not a lesser degree

A DNB seat at a high-volume institution can be better clinical training than an MD seat at a college with a thin case load. It is treated at par for teaching eligibility and super specialty entrance. Judge it on the hospital, not on the letters. DNB information →

Understand the PG bond before you accept

Several states attach service bonds with substantial penalties to PG seats, and private colleges attach their own. Read the bond clause in the prospectus, in full, before you accept an allotment. This is where PG candidates get financially trapped, far more often than at the fee stage.

How to use this page. Every date here was checked against the official counselling authority's own website on 7 August 2026. State authorities extend and revise deadlines at short notice, sometimes with only a few hours' warning, so treat this page as a starting point and confirm the current date on the official portal before you pay any fee. Orchid Education Foundation is an independent admission guidance firm. We are not an agent of any counselling authority, we cannot influence any allotment, and no seat in India can be obtained without a valid NEET UG 2026 score.

NEET PG FAQs

Questions Parents Ask Us

When is the NEET PG 2026 exam?
+

30 August 2026, in computer-based test mode, conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences. The information bulletin went live on 1 July 2026 and the application window ran from 1 July to 21 July 2026. Admit cards are scheduled for 27 August and the result is to be declared by 30 September 2026.

I missed the 21 July application deadline. Can I still apply?
+

The regular application window has closed. NBEMS opened an edit window from 25 to 28 July and a selective edit window from 31 July to 10 August, but those are for correcting a submitted application, not for filing a new one. NBEMS has historically not reopened registration after the selective edit stage. Watch natboard.edu.in for any notice, and plan around the next cycle if none appears.

What changed in the NEET PG 2026 exam pattern?
+

The paper has been cut from 200 questions to 180. Marking remains four marks for a correct answer with one mark deducted for a wrong one. NBEMS has also changed test city allocation: centres are no longer allotted first-come-first-served. Candidates select three preferred test states in the application, and a separate city-choice window follows after the application window closes. Exam city information is scheduled for 11 August 2026.

What is the internship cut-off date for NEET PG 2026 eligibility?
+

30 September 2026. A candidate must complete the compulsory rotating internship on or before that date to be eligible. If your internship ends after 30 September 2026 you are not eligible for this cycle, regardless of when you sat the exam.

Does OEF handle NEET PG and super specialty admissions?
+

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Our founder Dr. Kausshik Hazaricka is himself an MBBS, which matters when a candidate is weighing a clinical branch against a non-clinical one, or a DNB seat against an MD seat at a lower-ranked institution. See our pages on MD specialisations, MS specialisations, MDS and DM and MCh.

Practice Before You Sit

NEET PG aspirants can take a free mock test

The exam is on 30 August 2026 and the application window has closed, so what is left between now and then is preparation. If you want to sit a full paper under exam conditions before the real one, NEET Mentor Hub runs a free NEET PG mock test built from real previous-year medical-PG questions across pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical subjects. You get your score plus the correct answer, year and explanation for every question.

Hosted on NEET Mentor Hub. Built from publicly available previous-year questions for self-assessment. It is not an NBEMS paper, not affiliated with NBEMS, and not a prediction of this year's questions. Note also that the 2026 paper has been cut to 180 questions, so treat this as subject practice rather than a format rehearsal.
