Rank vs score — the simple version
Your score (out of 720) decides whether you qualify. Your rank decides which seat you can get, because every counselling authority allots seats in rank order. Two candidates with close scores can be hundreds of ranks apart, so always plan with your rank. For MD/MS, the same rank is used by MCC and by the states, but each state makes its own merit list, so your position in a state list can be very different from your All India Rank.

The short answer. NEET PG 2026 is on 30 August 2026 (Sunday), 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, conducted by NBEMS as a single-shift computer-based test. Applications ran 1 July to 21 July 2026 and have closed. Exam city intimation went out on 11 August. The admit card release date has been revised twice: first from 27 August to 24 August, then — per a Notice dated 24.08.2026 citing “certain unavoidable circumstances” and requests received from Assam and Meghalaya — to 25 August 2026. The result is due by 30 September 2026. The paper has been cut from 200 questions to 180, with marking unchanged at plus four and minus one. Internship must be completed on or before 30 September 2026. Update, 24 September 2026: the result is out. The result is out, ahead of the notified 30 September deadline. NBEMS's notice, dated 24 September 2026, states that the NEET-PG 2026 examination for admission to MD/MS/DNB/DrNB (Direct 6 Years Course)/PG Medical Diploma courses for the 2026-27 session was conducted on 30 August 2026. Due to an internal power failure at iON Digital Zone, Sitapura, Jaipur (TC Codes 41682 & 41683), candidates scheduled at those centres could not complete their exam, so a re-examination of the affected candidates was held on 5 September 2026, also at Jaipur. A total of 263,544 candidates appeared on 30 August 2026 and 2,416 candidates appeared on 5 September 2026 — 265,960 in all. The result, showing each candidate's raw score and NEET-PG 2026 rank, has been declared and is available at natboard.edu.in.

What the terms mean. Per the notice: the NEET-PG 2026 Rank is a candidate's overall merit position among everyone who appeared, arrived at using actual marks scored plus the tie-breaking criteria in the NEET-PG 2026 Information Bulletin. The qualifying cut-off score is the minimum needed to be considered eligible for counselling at all — clearing it does not by itself guarantee a seat; where you land depends on your rank relative to seats available in the quota and category you're counselling under. Our source document for this notice was page 3 of 4; if a further category breakdown (such as a separate PwBD cut-off within SC/ST/OBC, if one differs from the combined figure above) appears elsewhere in the notice, we have not seen it and are not inventing one — confirm the complete, category-wise cut-off directly at natboard.edu.in.
Cleared the cut-off? Here's what actually decides your seat
Clearing the qualifying percentile only opens the door to counselling — it is not an allotment. MD/MS/PG Diploma seats then get filled through NEET-PG counselling: All India Quota via MCC, State Quota via each state's DME, and a separate Management Quota and NRI Quota track at private and deemed medical colleges, which runs on its own institution-wise or state-association process rather than through MCC. NBEMS Notice · 12 August 2026 · Read this even if you already got an SMS
Some candidates were sent the wrong test city by SMS. NBEMS confirmed on 12 August that due to a technical issue, the test city intimated to some candidates via SMS was incorrect. Corrected SMS and emails with the right test city have since been sent to everyone affected — but do not rely on the SMS alone, corrected or not. Log into your NEET-PG 2026 application portal directly with your registered credentials and check your allotted test city there. The notice states plainly that whatever city is shown on your application portal is final; plan your travel and accommodation against that, not against any message in your inbox.

Admit card release date revised again — now 25 August, not 27 August. As per the NEET-PG 2026 Information Bulletin, the admit card was originally due on 27 August 2026. NBEMS first moved that up to 24 August “for the convenience of candidates,” then, per this 24.08.2026 notice, moved it again to 25 August 2026, citing certain unavoidable circumstances and requests received with regard to Assam and Meghalaya. The exam itself is unaffected: 30 August 2026 (Sunday), 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, single-shift CBT. Download only from the NBEMS portal once it opens, and do not rely on rumours or unverified social-media posts for this or any other NEET-PG 2026 update.

The paper has been shortened by twenty questions. Marking is unchanged at plus four and minus one. With fewer questions carrying the same weight of consequence, a single careless negative marking decision costs proportionally more than it did last year.
NBEMS scrapped the old rush-to-apply advantage. Applicants chose three preferred test states in the form, and a separate city selection step follows, subject to availability. For candidates travelling from Guwahati, Shillong or Imphal this is a genuine improvement — but confirm your city on 11 August and book travel then, not before.
NBEMS lowered the fee for this cycle. General, unreserved, OBC and EWS candidates paid ₹3,500; SC, ST and PwD candidates paid ₹2,500. Minor in the scheme of a PG budget, but it removed one small barrier for candidates who were undecided about applying.
MBBS degree or provisional certificate, internship completion certificate dated on or before 30 September 2026, permanent or provisional state medical council registration, Class 10 certificate, category certificate, and a valid photo ID. Council registration in particular takes time in several NE states. Start it now.

A DNB seat at a high-volume institution can be better clinical training than an MD seat at a college with a thin case load. It is treated at par for teaching eligibility and super specialty entrance. Judge it on the hospital, not on the letters. DNB information →
Several states attach service bonds with substantial penalties to PG seats, and private colleges attach their own. Read the bond clause in the prospectus, in full, before you accept an allotment. This is where PG candidates get financially trapped, far more often than at the fee stage.

The regular application window has closed. NBEMS opened an edit window from 25 to 28 July and a selective edit window from 31 July to 10 August, but those are for correcting a submitted application, not for filing a new one. NBEMS has historically not reopened registration after the selective edit stage. Watch natboard.edu.in for any notice, and plan around the next cycle if none appears.

30 September 2026. A candidate must complete the compulsory rotating internship on or before that date to be eligible. If your internship ends after 30 September 2026 you are not eligible for this cycle, regardless of when you sat the exam.
