Palakkad is the Gateway of Kerala nestling between the mountain pass of the Western Ghats, a dreamy land with misty mountains, lush green forest, blue watery dams, wild life sanctuaries and historical monuments make it one of the best destination in the state. The climate is hot and humid for most part of the year. The nearest international airport is Coimbatore Airport, which is about 45 km from Chittur. There are two railway stations serving Palakkad – Palakkad Junction is a broad gauge railway junction (located at Olavakkode) and Palakkad Town railway station located in the heart of the Palakkad town. Palakkad is well connected by roads. The National Highway 544 (NH 544) from Salem to Kochi and the Palakkad – Kozhikode National Highway 213 pass through the district.
Since the Government has difficulties in satisfying all medical education needs, the Safe Development Alms Trust, Palakkad has entered the Medical Education scene. The trust started Karuna Hospital in Vilayodi, Chittur in 2004 and entered the field of Medical Education in 2006 at the beginning of Karuna Medical College as part of the Karuna Institute of Medical Sciences.
